This article will walk you through the installation process and share detailed step-by-step instructions on installing a WordPress theme. We’ll cover the most common methods to install a WordPress theme, so you can choose the method that works best for you.
Мethod 1. Install a Theme using WordPress admin theme search
If you’re looking to install a free WordPress theme from the WordPress.org themes directory, then you can explore this directory from inside your WordPress dashboard.
Step. 1 Log in to your WordPress admin dashboard
To browse the directory, log in to your WordPress admin area. Next, go to the Appearance (1) » Themes (2) page and click on the Add New button (3).
Step 2. Search and find the theme that you want to install
On the next screen, you can choose from Popular, Latest, or Favorites (1).
If you already know the theme that you want to use, then simply type its name into the “Search themes…” field (2).
Step 3. Install the theme
When you find the theme that you want to install ( in our case this will be the “Inspiro” theme), simply hover your mouse over the theme’s image. You will see the Install, Preview, and “Details & Preview” buttons.
Then you just need to click on the Install button.
When the installation of your theme is ready, WordPress will show a success message (1). WordPress will also display the “Activate” and “Live Preview” buttons. If you want to start using the theme all you need to do is to hit the Activate button (2) and the theme that you’ve selected will be live on your site.
Method 2. Install a theme by using the upload method from WordPress admin
The first method that we covered only allows you to install free themes that are available in the WordPress.org theme directory.
But what if you want to install a premium WordPress theme or a custom one?
Well, then you’ll need to install the theme by uploading it to your WPX WordPress admin panel.
Step 1. Download the archived theme
The first step is to download the .zip file of the theme that you’ve already purchased.
The next thing is to go to the Appearance (1) » Themes (2) page and click on the Add New button (3).
Step 2. Install and activate the theme
Since you already have the theme you want to install, simply go ahead and click on the Upload Theme button.
You can now click on “Choose file” and select the .zip file that you downloaded earlier.
Once your theme is installed, you will see a “Theme installed successfully” message (1).
You’ll also see links to preview or activate your theme. To start using this theme on your website click on Activate button (2).
Method 3. Installing a WordPress theme using FTP
Step 1. Log in to your FTP client
You need to use your FTP user in your WPX Admin panel. If you don’t have an FTP user please check the following article.
Then you need to log in to your FTP client (we will use File Zilla). If you are not familiar with File Zilla and how to use it please check here.
Once you are logged in you need to find the “themes” folder on the site where you want the theme to be installed.
In our case, this is our Main website so we need to go to “public_html >> wp_content >> themes”:
Step 2. Upload the theme
First, you need to unzip the archived file of the theme. Once you are in the “themes” folder select your unzipped theme folder from your computer. You can then drag and drop this theme folder (1) into your website’s “themes” folder (2):
You should now see the theme that you just uploaded.
Step 3. Activate the uploaded theme
Once you’ve uploaded the theme, switch back to your WordPress dashboard. Then go to Appearance » Themes.
You should now see the theme that you just uploaded.
To use this theme on your website, simply hover your mouse on top of that theme. Then click on the Activate button.
Method 4. Installing a WordPress theme using our WPX File Manager
Step 1. Log in to your File Manager
First, you need to log in to File Manager through your WPX admin panel. If you are not familiar with our File Manager and how to log in please check here.
Once you’re in File Manager please navigate to the “themes” folder of the site where you want the theme to be installed (public_html > wp_content > themes).
Step 2. Upload the theme
The next step is to upload the theme that we want to be installed on the site. You need to select the “Upload Files” button from the “File” dropdown menu.
Then select the archived file of the theme that you’ve purchased and upload it. You should see it in the list with the themes. Once uploaded you need to select it with the right mouse button and select “Extract Archive”:
Step 3. Activate the theme
Once you’ve uploaded and unzipped the theme, switch back to your WordPress dashboard. Then go to Appearance » Themes.
You should now see the theme that you just uploaded.
To use this theme on your website, simply hover your mouse on top of that theme. Then click on the Activate button.
