How can I set up а Coming Soon (Maintenance) page?

Are you about to apply a major update to your website such as adding a bunch of new articles/products or an overall design change? We’ll show you how to set up an “Under Construction” page until you are done with the final look of it.

Step 1. Log in to your WordPress dashboard.

For this step, you’ll have to navigate to your wp-admin / wp-login.php page and log in as shown in the screenshot below.

Step 2. Install a Coming Soon / Maintenance page plugin.

There’s no specific plugin that we would recommend. Just make sure to pick one from the WordPress plugin’s repository and install it. For the article’s sake, we’ve chosen Minimal Coming Soon & Maintenance Mode.

You should remember that all Coming Soon (Maintenance) page plugins have similar functionality and you cannot go wrong with any of them.

The next step would be to activate the plugin:

Step 3. Activate, deactivate, and modify the maintenance page.

Once active, a dropdown (1) menu will appear which will help you switch the Maintenance mode on and off. That would be sufficient to trigger the default Coming Soon page. Such plugins will also let you customize the page by creating a Maintenance Mode (2) option in the Settings menu. Feel free to modify it the way you desire.

The default Coming Soon page looks as follows:

Keep in mind that you’ll see the Coming Soon (Maintenance) page only if you are logged out of your wp-admin dashboard. For that purpose, you can either use a different browser or an incognito mode.

This way you can develop your website without having it accessible to your visitors. Don’t forget to switch off the Maintenance mode or entirely disable the plugin once you’d like to go live.

If you have activated, installed, and modified the page you’d like your visitors to see – congratulations! You’ve successfully set up a Coming Soon (Maintenance) page!
