At WPX, we understand the importance of maximizing the value of your hosting plan. That’s why we’ve made it possible for you to use email on your domain without taking up one of your website slots. This feature can be used when you need email functionality but don’t want to host a full website on the domain. In this article, we’ll guide you through the simple steps to set up and use mail on a domain without using a slot.
What is an Alias site?
An alias is an alternate name for a webpage or resource that is used to make it easier for users to find or remember. The alias site will display the content of the original site in the browser.
Important things to know about Aliases:
- Aliases do not take Website slots.
- An alias site will use the DNS zone of the original site.
- You can install an SSL certificate to an Alias, but it has to be manually included the first time. You can do that by installing a Custom SSL certificate.
- The alias site will display the content of the original website
- Aliases can have their own email boxes that won’t be affected by the original website.
Step 1. Log in to your WPX account
You can log in to your WPX account here.
Step 2. Navigate to your hosting plan
You can either find your hosting service through the navigation menu or within your dashboard. Once you log in to your WPX account select My Services (1) → WordPress Hosting (2).
Then you will see all of your hosting services with us. When you find the plan that you want to manage, you need to select the orange button Manage service.
Step 3. Add Alias to one of your sites
Once you reach your hosting plan management panel, choose the Manage Websites (1) menu. You’ll be taken to a page where you can see, manage, and add new websites to your account.
All you have to do is click on the + Add New Website (2) and select from the dropdown menu – Type: Alias of.
Please note that if you delete the original site, the alias site will also be removed. To ensure seamless email functionality, make sure the original site is configured to use WPX email as well.
Then select one of your websites, in this example, we’re using wpxexample.net (our main domain).
Fill in the name of your domain (that you want to use for Emails) and tick the option With own e-mail. This will enable email boxes for your alias.
That’s it! Now you will see the alias site that you’ve added in your email boxes when you add a new email box.
