How To Transfer a Domain To WPX Hosting

In this article, we’ll outline the steps necessary for transferring a domain from your current registrar (e.g.: Namecheap or GoDaddy) over to WPX.

Once your domain has been transferred to us, annual renewals and management of the domain will be made through your WPX Hosting admin panel.

In terms of price, domain transfer costs the same as annual renewal also, the domain transfer includes 1 year of free domain registration so you will not need to pay for both the transfer and a year of domain registration.

Domain Transfer from an old Host

Below are the essential requirements for transferring your domain;

  • The transfer lock should be disabled,
  • Domain privacy protection should be disabled,
  • You must have access to the Registrant/Administrative email address in the domain WHOIS records,
  • You need to have a valid EPP key from your current domain registrar for this domain.

All of the above changes can be made in the domain control panel at your current registrar (the one you’re moving the domain away from, such as Namecheap or GoDaddy).

If you do not have access to the above options at your current domain registrar, you will need to contact their customer support service to make the needed changes outlined above and have the EPP key sent to you as well.

Transferring with a New Account

If you are creating a new hosting account with us, you can order domain transfer at the same time. From Plans & Pricing, select Domains, then search for your domain name (1) and select Transfer (2);

After you have selected the domain name, add it to your cart to continue:

After clicking on the cart to proceed, you will arrive at the Domain Configuration screen. Here, you must first enter the EPP Code before clicking Continue:

The final step is to confirm your transfer with payment and identification information. Once complete, the domain transfer will begin.

If you already have a hosting account with us however, please raise a ticket with us here and provide the domain name and EPP Code (supplied by your current registrar for the domain in question) in the Support Ticket.

We will then generate an invoice in your account for that domain transfer however, the above steps must be completed (transfer lock disabled, etc.) before raising the ticket with us.

After the Invoice

If the EPP code is correct and the domain is unlocked, the transfer to WPX Hosting will be processed. If all is completed without any issues the transfer will take up from 5 to 7 days to complete.  If you notice that your domain transfer request is on status Pending transfer for more than 7 days, please make sure to contact our support team.

After the transfer of the domain to us is finished, you will receive a notification email from our admin system and you can then manage that transferred domain in your WPX admin panel.

If the transfer procedure fails in one of the above steps, we will contact you to explain the failure (such as an incorrectly copied EPP code, missing information, transfer-locked domain, etc.) and advise what to do next.

After the necessary changes have been made on your end, you must then contact us again so we can restart the domain transfer again and ensure everything will be working correctly.

Transferring an expired domain. Is it possible?

Yes, it is possible! You have the right to transfer an expired domain due to a recent ICANN policy update.

Registrars are not allowed to deny a transfer due to expiration or nonrenewal, (unless you haven’t paid for a previous registration period).

However, if the current registrar has begun to delete your domain (i.e., the EPP status code (https://www.icann.org/resources/pages/epp-status-codes-2014-06-16-en) shows the domain in Redemption Grace Period (see also https://www.icann.org/resources/pages/gtld-lifecycle-2012-02-25-en), the name must be restored by your current registrar before it can be transferred. This may result in an additional fee, sometimes referred to as a redemption fee.
