What is our Migration Policy?

We, at WPX offer free website migration from your old host to us, ensuring a seamless transfer handled manually by our expert WPX staff. In addition to our free standard migration service, we also provide two paid options for more specific needs:

  • Express Migration – For those needing a faster transfer, our Express Migration option ensures your website is migrated with top priority, skipping the migration queue.
  • Domain Name Change Migration – If you’re changing your domain name during the migration process, we offer a specialized service to handle all the adjustments required.

The following points state WPX’s current policy on Site Migrations:

1. To begin your migration, you’ll need a WPX account with a plan that has at least one available website slot for each site you want to move.

  • A separate migration request must be completed for each website you want migrated to WPX.
  • Ensure you have enough available disk space for the migration to be completed.
  • Email migration is included in WPX’s free migration service.
  • Do not make any changes during the migration process as they may not be transferred over to WPX.
  • Please note that we migrate sites exactly as they are. Any changes to URLs during the process would require our paid migration service.

2. Immediately after WPX completes the site migration, it is your responsibility to change nameservers at the domain registrar/s (e.g. GoDaddy, Namecheap) and, if relevant, MX records, so that domains and emails are pointing to the correct hosting service (WPX).

After the migration is completed and the domain is pointed to WPX, a propagation process will start that can take up to 24 (in some cases up to 48) hours to be completed.

During that process, it is important not to make any changes to the website. Some of the changes may be saved on your old hosting and they will disappear once the propagation is complete.

If you do make changes during the propagation process and you need those to be migrated over to WPX, that will be considered as re-migration of your website, which is a paid service with us and costs 98$ excl. VAT

3. If you need to re-migrate a website that was previously migrated to WPX within the last 365 days (same website), a fee of $98 (excluding VAT) will apply.

What is a migration with a Domain name change?

When the actual domain, or a website’s URL address, is being changed (e.g: changing abc.com to 123.com; changing shop.abc.com to 123.com/shop;  changing shop.abc.com to blog.abc.com, or changing 123.com/shop to 123.com/blog, etc) then this will require a great deal of additional manual database work.

WPX charges $98 excl. VAT per site for these types of migrations.

Also, remember that migrations from one domain to another are not 100% guaranteed due to encoded URLs in the database.

If this turns out to be the case, we will refund you the amount paid for that migration.

The above point also includes the same type of migration even if both websites are currently hosted with us.

Staging environments by different hosting (for example: .wpcomstaging.com .wpengine.com .cloudwaysapps.com .flywheelsites.com) are excluded from the Domain Name change migration and are completed as Free migrations.

Paid migrations are limited strictly to websites that are built on WordPress. Non-WordPress websites built with custom code can not be migrated by our Migration Team.

What about infected websites?

Every website migrated to WPX is scanned for malicious code. If we find any malware, the Security team of WPX will clean the website for free, which may extend the time window for migration completion from 24 hours to 72 hours.

As per our terms of service, we do NOT allow pornographic, illegal, and/or inappropriate material or filesharing/bit-torrent sites on WPX – sorry!

What about Email migrations?

Our free migration service DOES include your emails from your old host BUT if you are using a 3rd party email provider like Zoho or Google Apps, the correct records should be added to our migration form (check with WPX Support if unsure).

If you have not provided us with the correct 3rd party email records, we cannot add those during the migration process

What about WP Multisite migrations?

If you are moving an existing Multisite installation from another hosting company to WPX as a Multisite installation here, then that IS a free migration that we DO handle for you.

However, if you are moving a normal, single WP installation from another hosting company to WPX as a Multisite installation here OR require a domain change during a Multisite migration, we do NOT offer that service, either as a free or a paid migration and such a migration is NOT recommended – it is likely to be highly problematic and NOT currently supported here, sorry!

We do not migrate a single website out of a Multisite installation as well.

What about Internal Account migrations?

With regards to internal account migrations from one server to another at WPX, these are added to our Migration Team’s work queue (currently that queue is quite substantial).

We will send you an email notification when the migration team is ready to start.

You should not make changes to the website(s) during the migration process as these changes will most likely be lost.

A re-migration of website/s due to changes made during migration will be considered a paid service.

If some of your sites are working on lower PHP versions (e.g. 5.6 which we still support on our first servers), they may require some updates to start functioning correctly on our newest servers that are supporting PHP versions above 7.0.

What about non-WordPress website migrations?

You may have already heard of other CMSs like Drupal, Joomla, Prestashop, Magento, etc. Keep in mind that we specialize in WordPress. The tools and optimizations that we eagerly try to improve each day on a server level just won’t work on other platforms/systems. We also cannot guarantee the success of migration when it comes to a different CMS but we can surely give it a try!

There are content management systems that use their templates which cannot be exported to be migrated. If you are running websites on platforms such as Squarespace, Wix, etc, that’s something we do not have control over and our team will refuse a migration process.

If you have any other questions on the topic, don’t hesitate to contact the WPX Support Team via live chat (use the bottom right-hand widget) and they will respond and help within 30 seconds or less.
